Trends in 12-Month Mortality and Statutory Health Insurance Costs in Incident Metastatic Bladder Cancer in Germany, 2011–2024

Rising costs, no survival improvement: new ISPOR 2026 poster on metastatic bladder cancer in Germany

The GIPAM team analysed anonymized German statutory health insurance claims data from 2011 to 2024 to describe 12-month overall survival and inflation-adjusted healthcare costs in 14 annual cohorts of patients with incident metastatic bladder cancer (mBLC).

No improvement in standardized 12-month survival was observed over the 14 years (82.4% in 2011 vs. 70.8% in 2024), while costs per patient rose from €32,245 to €43,042, peaking at €49,500 in 2023. Given small annual cohorts, year-to-year variability should be considered when interpreting the results.
