Rising Drug Costs With Stable 12-Month Survival in Incident Metastatic Breast Cancer in Germany, 2011–2024

Stable survival, rising drug costs: new ISPOR 2026 poster on metastatic breast cancer in Germany

Using anonymized German statutory health insurance claims data from 2011 to 2024, the GIPAM team analysed 12-month overall survival and inflation-adjusted healthcare costs in 14 annual cohorts of patients with incident metastatic breast cancer (mBC).

Standardized 12-month survival remained broadly stable (93.3% in 2011 vs. 93.9% in 2024), while costs per patient increased steadily from €31,771 to €39,033 (+22.9%) – mainly driven by outpatient drug costs, which rose from €14,821 to €19,385 per patient.
